Our 2011 Teacher of the Year is speech-language pathologist, Rebecca Grijalva. Rebecca completed both her undergraduate degree and her Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at Louisiana State University. She holds a Georgia license in speech-language pathology, and she is nationally certified by the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
Early in her training, Rebecca found that she had a special interest in working with preschoolers. During the 2004-2005 school year, Rebecca began working at Coralwood, and she considers herself blessed to work with children at the beginning of their educational journey.
Rebecca is committed to professional growth. In 2007, she received an ASHA ACE award for excellence in continuing education. Rebecca is thankful for Coralwood's Helping Our Teachers (HOT) Committee which has provided training to keep her current in the field of speech-language pathology. Over the last five years, the HOT committee has funded a trip to the ASHA national convention and training in social communication interventions for autism. Rebecca has received training in the Floortime Approach ™, and in August 2011 she will be attending introductory training on the PROMPT technique.
Rebecca is married to Eric, a graphic designer, and she is the mother of a two-year old, Nathan. Rebecca and her family enjoy attending bike races and spending time outdoors fishing and hiking.

Student Sarah Yasine was featured in Access Atlanta, attending the Locks of Love charity event hosted by Van Michael Salon.
The 9th annual Coralwood Foundation auction was held Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Emory University Miller-Ward Alumni House.
The event praised as "Coralwood's best ever auction" featured both silent and live auctions and several other activities to raise as much support for the Coralwood School as possible. An impressive hors d'oeuvres and dessert buffet kept all bidders in a jovial — and contributory — frame of mind.
Congratulations to the Auction chairs Kris Ulven, Anna Lutz, and Tara Merchant and all the amazing volunteers. Great job!
