President’s Message

 Dear Coralwood Family,

Keeping the Coralwood Magic Alive—Today, Tomorrow, Always

As we begin the 2025–26 school year, we are honored to welcome you, whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, to the Coralwood community. The start of the school year brings excitement, new beginnings, and a shared sense of purpose. No matter where you are on your Coralwood journey, we’re so glad you’re here.

Coralwood is truly a magical place. Our inclusive model brings together children of all abilities from over 40 home schools across DeKalb County, creating a vibrant and diverse community where every child is celebrated. The incredible teachers and staff work tirelessly to create a nurturing, engaging environment that meets each student where they are and helps them grow.

But Coralwood’s magic isn’t just found in the classroom. It lives in the heart of our community; the families, alumni, and supporters who continue to show up and give back, long after their time at the school has ended. From alumni marching in the Homecoming parade to parents returning for our annual Spring Auction, Coralwood is a place that stays with you. That kind of lasting connection is rare, and it’s something we’re committed to protecting and growing.

“Coralwood is a model for the Metro area and state regarding inclusion; people from all over the world have come to see Coralwood and how its programs are run.”  – Dr. Peggy Gallagher, Georgia State University

This year, the Coralwood Foundation is proud to center our efforts around our theme:

“Keeping the Coralwood Magic Alive—Today, Tomorrow, Always.”

The magic we all experience at Coralwood doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of dedicated educators, inclusive practices, and a deeply invested community. But maintaining and growing this magic requires ongoing support.

As you may know, Coralwood’s state funding is based solely on the number of neurotypical kindergarten students enrolled. For the 2025–26 school year, that budget is just $11,000. That’s where the Foundation comes in. Since 2005, the Coralwood Foundation has helped fill the gap, funding vital programs, professional development, facility improvements, and special experiences that enrich the Coralwood experience for every child.

Thanks to your generosity, the Foundation has helped provide curriculum resources, classroom materials, sensory spaces, outdoor learning environments, and student enrichment opportunities like performances from the Alliance Theatre. These investments don’t just impact the children in our classrooms today, they help ensure that future Coralwood students continue to learn, play, and grow in a place full of joy and opportunity.

We know that every one of us plays a role in keeping the Coralwood magic alive. Whether you volunteer, donate, serve on the board, or spread the word about our incredible school, you are helping sustain something truly special, not just for today, but for the years to come.

We are excited to serve as this year’s Foundation co-presidents and look forward to working with all of you. Let’s make this a year of connection, community, and continued magic together.

With gratitude,
Caroline Carothers and Desiree Johnson
